Breakfast at James
Pietermaai Oasis is the only hotel in the Pietermaai District with its own daytime diner next door — so breakfast doesn't stop at ten, and on request it comes to your sunbed.

Our own diner, one door along
Most hotels in Pietermaai serve breakfast in a two-hour window, at a table, and then the kitchen closes until dinner. We do it differently, because we own the kitchen. James is our daytime diner, directly next door to the hotel — the same hosts, the same team, one door along.
That means breakfast at Pietermaai Oasis runs on its own clock. James opens at 7:30 and stays open until 15:00, seven days a week, with last seating at 13:30. Come down at half past seven before the heat, or surface at one in the afternoon and still order eggs Benedict — it's the same kitchen, running straight through from breakfast into lunch. Nobody hurries you out at ten.
And on request, we bring it to the pool
Ask us — a message to Dee, or a word at James — and we'll carry breakfast or lunch from James across to your sunbed at the courtyard pool. Coffee, pancakes, a club sandwich at one in the afternoon with your feet in the water. It's the part guests write home about, and it's the one thing no other hotel in the district can offer, because no other hotel in the district has its own diner next door.
It isn't a hotel breakfast room
James was never built as a hotel restaurant, and that's rather the point. It's where the neighbourhood has its first coffee — locals with laptops, families on a Sunday, our own guests in yesterday's linen. You end up talking to people. The room is warm and a bit busy in the best way, and it feels like the district rather than like a hotel.
What's on
The kitchen keeps it short and does it properly, and the card changes with what the island has.
- Pancakes — fresh fruit, syrup, icing sugar
- Eggs Benedict — muffin, spinach, bacon or salmon, poached egg, hollandaise
- Chicken & Waffle — buttermilk fried chicken, Belgian waffle, hot honey
- Pasta Milanesa — schnitzel, spaghetti, tomato sugo, parmesan, basil
- ShredM — the house special, and the thing regulars order without looking
Proper coffee all day, fresh juice, and a takeaway counter if you're heading to the beach. See the full menu at jamescuracao.com
"We built James because we wanted somewhere to have our own breakfast. It turned out the neighbourhood wanted the same thing — and our guests get it in their dressing gown, one door along."
